Rookies put UCA in top 25
creative schools in the world

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has been ranked in the top 25 creative schools in the world by leading games industry platform, The Rookies.

The website’s annual ranking of universities, colleges and specialist schools, put UCA 25th in the Top 50 Creative Schools in the World, and third in the UK. It also ranks schools on more specific creative categories, such as Architectural Visualisation, 2D Animation and Immersive Media – and in Digital Fashion, UCA was ranked number one.

The rankings are based on student work submissions. This year, 180 judges reviewed 67,000 entries from across the globe.

Andy Bossom, UCA’s Industry Engagement Lead and Director of the UCA Games Incubator Studio for the School of Games and Creative Technology, said: "We are so pleased with this news. It is a testament to the ongoing hard work and excellence being achieved in the UK at UCA, from both the students and the staff delivery team. Our commitment to high quality industry facing education, providing the space for research and to creatively explore new work, as well as collaborate with industry partners on live briefs and funded research projects, is born out through the outstanding graduate portfolios we see and this important international recognition."

Dr Sophy Smith, Director of the School of Games and Creative Technology at UCA said “Over the last few years, games at UCA has benefited from around £3 million investment in state-of-the art games labs and facilities. These facilities, combined with our high-quality teaching and learning, is a potent force that enables our students to produce an excellent standard of work." 

Professor Jules Dagonet, Director of the School of Fashion and Textiles, added: “We’re thrilled to be number one! This achievement celebrates UCA's pioneering commitment to Digital Fashion as a force for good for the fashion and games industry."

MA Digital Fashion at UCA was the first degree course of its kind when it launched in 2020. Since its inception, it has attracted collaboration with the likes of Farfetch, Epic Games and the Fabricant. 

Emily Shahaj, lecturer in 3D Digital Fashion, said: “Thank you to our students for creating such incredible work and our tutor technicians Eshwar Nagilla and Ingrid Heskett for supporting them.”
