Between 2018 and 2020, Prof. Duthie was the Head of School of Film, Media and Performing Arts at UCA, before returning to the film industry as CEO of The Production Guild of Great Britain.
As the new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Partnerships and Industry Engagement, Prof. Duthie is focused on establishing two new avenues of industry connection and entrepreneurialism – an Industry Hub and The Agency – to ensure students are industry-ready for a creative career.
Prof. Duthie’s work will initiate, maintain, and enhance local, national, and international industry links and contribute to the University’s existing research and knowledge exchange agenda.
“I am incredibly excited to be returning to UCA in this new role, which represents a perfect blend of what I’ve done in my career – higher education and the creative industries," said Prof. Duthie.
She continued: “This new role is an integral part of the University’s new strategy, and I’m looking forward to supporting UCA and its students achieve their goals to be the very best they can be.”
UCA’s President & Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane Roscoe, added: “I am delighted to welcome back Prof. Duthie to UCA, where we know her expertise and experience will prove vital in making this new role a big success. We’re excited to see what opportunities she can bring, and what she can create.”
Prof. Duthie has more than 25 years of experience in the media industry, across Higher Education, television, and broadcasting. In Higher Education, besides UCA, she has worked for the University of Hertfordshire and with ScreenSkills. On television, she has worked for the likes of the BBC, ITV, Sky, and Discovery, appearing on several news channels as a media commentator.
In addition to co-authoring The TV Studio Production Handbook, she has served on the board for Women in Film and Television (WFTV) and the Royal Television Society (RTS) TVC and was a judge for the International Emmys, Royal Television Society, and BAFTA Awards.
She is currently on the standards advisory committee for CIISA (Creative Industries Standards Authority) and the National Advisory Board for the British Film Commission.
