Give Away Your Relics brings together a range of artists who explore and play with narrative storytelling through a feminist lens. Using items/imagery associated with the feminine as a point of departure, the artists critique female fictions and roles without losing a naughty playfulness.

Working across a differing set of practices, they summon the feminine protagonist to construct their own screenplay within the gallery – refusing to play the victim and instead disturbing the known and expected.

The show channels the gothic and surreal imaginings of authors such as Angela Carter and Margaret Atwood through its dark humour to touch upon real world concerns associated with the feminine, or the label of. However she is considered, it is this ambivalence that is the most striking.’ (de Beauvoir, 2010: 167).

Give Away Your Relics aims to shape-shift between real and imagery to explore such complexities and carve out a new set of narratives and attitudes around the feminine.

Artists: Cecilia Bonilla, Jemima Brown, Annabel Dover, Kate Lyddon, Hollie Miller, Cherelle Sappleton and Kate Street.
