Senior Lecturer in Acting & Performance
Pia Rickman (she/her) is an intimacy coordinator, director, actor trainer and educator. Pia works as an in-house intimacy specialist for the School of Film, Media & Performing Arts.
Bio
Pia has been teaching acting for over 10 years and has worked at numerous Higher Education institutions across the UK and abroad. She has previously worked as Senior Lecturer for our Acting degree courses, focusing on teaching screen acting and directing at UCA Farnham in addition to researching and developing innovative and sustainable systems for teaching, acting and staging intimacy. Pia’s specialisms include working with both young and established performers as well as artists from non-traditional acting backgrounds. Pia supports students with consent-forward, inclusive and trauma-informed advocacy and choreography.
As the Co-director of Nordic Intimacy Coordinators, Pia has shared her work with theatre and film artists around Europe, being a seek after speaker at conferences as well as industry events. Through her company NIC, she also trains and mentors future Intimacy Coordinators into the industry. Pia’s recent intimacy coordination work for TV and film includes The Diplomat, Romantic Getaway, Ted Lasso, Girl Picture and Tove.

In 2023, Pia was honored with “Deed of the Year Award” by Filmiaura at Finnish Film Awards’ (Jussi) for her work "towards creating a safer film industry".
