Nick Canty

Nick Canty is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Strategy and Marketing and teaches marketing, social media theory & practice and business management on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He joined the Business School for the Creative Industries (BSCI), University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in January 2024. He previously taught at University College London and City University.

Bio

Nick joined UCA from University College London where he was a lecturer in the Department of Information Studies. He taught a variety of subjects on the MA In Publishing programme including marketing and sales, social media, strategic planning, business models and theories and ethics. He has managed student placements and mentorship schemes and is keen to help students get experience in industry to enhance their CV and prepare for the workplace.

Nick has a background in the publishing industry and worked in a variety of roles for Pearson, Thomson Reuters and Europe’s largest professional society for technology. In his career in practice he managed commercial business units and worked on a variety of publishing formats including books, magazines, newsletters and digital services. He started his career in event marketing with the FT global events department.

  • Co-Investigator, Academic Book of the Future. This two-year project (2014-2016) was funded by the AHRC and sponsored by the British Library to investigate the academic book in its current and emerging contexts.
  • Joint organiser, UCL Festival of Reading. 2014. A two-day event exploring different forms of reading.
