Pia Rickman is a lecturer of acting and the screen acting leader on BA (Hons) Acting and Performance course. Pia’s research interests in addition to screen acting include choreography, consent, power dynamics and boundaries in the process of staging intimacy. She is interested in feminist actor training and about extending the intimacy work principles more broadly in academia.
Pia is the co-founder of Nordic Intimacy Coordinators and founding member of The Intimacy Practitioners’ Guild EU/UK and she works professionally as an intimacy coordinator in film, TV and live performance.
Pia’s prior on-set experience as an assistant director and production manager, and her current position as an intimacy coordinator in the industry, gives Pia a unique angle on teaching within higher education.
Pia’s recent professional credits include coaching actors in Finland on a feature film The Unknown Soldier as well as intimacy coordinating in feature films Tove (2020), Yellow Sulphur Sky (2021) and Friday (2021).
Pia has trained as a director at Drama Centre London, with MA in Performance (Screen Directing) and MA in Actor Training and Coaching from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Pia joined UCA in August 2017 and prior to joining she has taught in a number of other drama and film schools as a freelancer.
