Philip Myall

Senior Lecturer Film Production , UCA Farnham

Academic, School of Film Media and Performing Arts

Philip trained as a filmmaker at the NFTS and has since worked primarily as a screenwriter (mostly on independent feature projects, though also in television). He is currently working on novels as well as screenplays and acts as a consultant on the development of both drama and documentary films.

Philip has led the teaching of Screenwriting on the Film Production BA (Hons) course since 2004 (having begun teaching on a sessional basis at Brunel University, Bucks New University, and what was then SIAD University College).

He trained as a Film-maker at the National Film and Television School (specialising in Screenwriting), having previously graduated with a BA (Hons) in Drama from The University of Hull.

Philip has worked primarily as a Screenwriter (mostly original feature projects, with some television).

He has been involved in mentoring for screenwriting, creative writing, and project development (for individual writers, directors, producers, and small production companies), and also worked for the EU MEDIA programme 2001-2013, in project evaluation and development.

Philip’s teaching is fundamentally informed by his core practice as a writer. He is currently writing a novel Gertrude and Gertrud (represented by Anna Webber at United Agents) and a feature screenplay The Butcher’s Story (for which he is also one of the originating producers), while sustaining several other projects at various stages of development, both novels and screenplays.
