John has worked in education for over 25 years in the UK and abroad. Initially he worked as a language teacher and then as a teacher trainer and educational consultant. 

He spent seven years as part of the nationally renowned team at LLU+, London South Bank University, where his work included leading on national projects such as the Skills for Life Professional Development programme, developing the (then) new subject specifications and qualifications for ESOL and literacy teaching, co-writing the national ESOL curriculum.

He also developed and ran an innovative and unique MA in creative and critical teaching education.
