Anthony graduated in 1974 from Northumbria University, having specialised in sculpture and printmaking. He identified that he would need to locate himself geographically closer to Europe whilst also having access to London and further afield as his ambitions were to establish a working studio.
After several years of further study and teaching experience, which included completing his PGCE at the University of Christ Church Canterbury and embarking on research into the drawings of Brancusi at the University of Kent, he started teaching in the further education sector, where he developed a significant reputation creating pre-foundation and foundation courses at South Kent College.
In addition he was a visiting tutor at Canterbury KIAD, Camberwell School of Art and the RCA. During the 80s and 90s he created a strong reputation of working in sculpture creating projects which embraced engaging with community as well as having an environmental concern.
