Research at UCA
Our School of Crafts & Design is home to an active community of maker-researchers. Led by Professor Colin Holden, the researchers based here are experts in a diverse range of fields from Ceramics to Silversmithing, Textiles to Product and Interior Design.
The School is also home to our International Textile Research Centre and Crafts Study Centre.

Dark Light is a film, installation and spoken word performance that explores themes of departure, migration, race, slavery and nostalgia. It was shown and performed at Whitstable Biennale Satellite and the Free-Range platform, Canterbury in 2018, with the film screened at the 51zero festival in 2019.
Howard began his research when he took up a residency at Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Park in Japan in 2014. There, he created 41 ceramic pieces incorporating new techniques. On his return to the UK, he developed this work further by creating an additional 22 pieces and exhibiting the collection at Guildford Cathedral in 2018.
