Two things, a whitework cloth embroidered in India and the southern African cloth, shweshwe, centred my practice-based research. Unravelling these things material culture stories in a “south-thinking-praxis” brought cultural dislocation to the foreground.
The exhibition brings together a reconfiguration of my practice outcomes and three installations, that were presented as encounters with cloth at ‘events of place’1 in local southern England spaces.
A relationality between the two cloth things, colonial and postcolony space, brought focus to the connecting blue-and-white threads.
