Simone has previously taught at Central St Martins, Instituto Marangoni and the Hong Kong Design institute in conjunction with UCA, and joined UCA in 2018.
Bio
Simone Konu studied English at the University of Nottingham, and discovered her love for fashion magazines at this age. In holidays she would return to London, to assists at magazines such as Harpers Bazaar, Tank and Vogue Russia. She was made junior fashion Editor of Ponystep Magazine in 2010-2011.
Since Simone has perused freelance work for titles including Italian Vogue, Sunday Times Style, Metal Magazine, Models.com, Stylist, Wonderland, INTERVIEW Germany, and i-D Online. In 2018 Simone co-founded ALSO Journal, an online magazine concerned with womanhood and its representation. In addition Simone has worked on a number of short film projects both in the roles of wardrobe and casting which has been featured at various film festivals as well as online platforms such as NOWNESS.
Simone has experience of working with a range of clients including Harvey Nichols, Nike, ASOS, Jack Wills, Chanel, Gucci, Lancome, and MyTheresa.com
Research statement
Simone’s work is primarily concerned with the presentation of women and exploration of diversity within fashion photography concerned with the body, race and ageism. Also Journal was established as a platform to tackle these issues in relation to how women are depicted within fashion imagery.
