Professor Melanie Gray

Professor Melanie Gray is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UCA with substantial experience as a practitioner, educator and researcher, and is a champion for women in the creative industries.

Bio

Professor Gray is passionate about providing innovative learning environments for students and preparing them for their creative careers. She has contributed to the creative sectors more broadly through her work on the Board of the European Institute for Commercial Communications Education as Vice-Chair on the Research Committee, and through her involvement at The Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD). She has also published works on gender-based discrimination in the creative industries and is the co-founder of the Women and Leadership in the Creative Industries academic conference and network.

Professor Gray’s PhD explored ‘Brand Management practices in UK media organisations’, and her research practice is focused primarily on media brands and brand management. Prior to her role at the University of Roehampton, she spent several years at the University of Bournemouth, most recently as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communications. Before moving into HE, Prof. Gray was Head of Brand at Vodafone and ran her own successful communications consultancy.
