Each student has ‘found their way’ into a specialist pathway by this stage of their course, choosing between Fine Art, 3D Creative Practice, Moving Image & Photography, Fashion & Textiles and Visual Communication.

The very nature of the Further Education programme offers students the opportunity to focus on ‘work in progress’ and less on the fixed nature of set ‘outcomes’ which might limit their creativity. Their work is therefore constantly building on itself and drawing from earlier inspiration and production. This enables a lively and experimental approach to working that explores the traditional and innovative practices within each pathway.

On reaching the mid-point of the year, this exhibition will allow each specialist pathway to review their work within the context of the gallery space on one day during the exhibition, allowing them to give room to their work and take it away from the studio. The exhibition itself is therefore also a ‘work in progress’ as its content builds though the addition and interaction of the artwork and curatorial decisions being made by the students when they work in the gallery space, one pathway after another.

As part of the professional practice element of the Further Education programme this developmental opportunity is designed to prepare the student for their final major project and end of year exhibition.
