Course overview

Our Pre-Sessional English language course is specifically designed to prepare you to study at UCA whether you will be continuing onto a Art & Design or Business course.

The 10 week course will improve your IELTS by 1.0 which can help you to meet the language requirement for your main course of study.

If you don't require less of an improvement in your English language skills more we also offer a 6 week course which will improve your IELTS score by up to 0.5.

We welcome students who speak English as second language, and those who are simply new to a university environment. Our tutors can help you to communicate effectively and creatively in your chosen field as well as develop intercultural skills.

By undertaking a Pre-Sessional English course you will not only improve your IELTS score, but also improve your academic English, expand your art and design vocabulary, develop your research skills, boost your confidence as a creative arts student in the  UK and help you to understand more about living and studying here.

This Autumn Pre-Sessional English courses is available if you are progressing onto a course starting in February 2021.Please note: that due to COVID-19 this course will be undertaken online rather than face-to-face in the UK.

For example, studying a Graduate Diploma: Art & Design course, you need to have an minimum overall IELTS* score of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. By taking a ten-week Pre-sessional English course (which improves your score by 1.0), the minimum IELTS* score you need is 4.5 overall with 4.5 in each component.
