Application guidelines for international students

If you’re considering studying with UCA, the advice below will help you with how to approach your application. We pride ourselves on having a diverse community that welcomes applications from any nationality, and are fully committed to providing the very best creative arts education to students from across the world.

Non-EU international students

If you are applying for a pre-degree or postgraduate course, you should apply directly to us using UCA’s online application form for your chosen courseIf you are applying for postgraduate research you should apply directly to us using the research proposal form.

If you are applying for a full-time undergraduate course, you can either apply to us directly or through UCAS. If you are only applying to UCA we would recommend that you apply direct to us. If you are applying to more than one university in the UK, please apply through UCAS. The benefits of applying directly to us are:

  • There is no application fee (up to £24 via UCAS).
  • There’s no set deadline. We do however encourage you to apply as soon as possible so you have enough time to organise your student visa, if you need one, and to apply for a place in university accommodation.
  • We will process your application through UCAS on your behalf.
  • You can track your application through our online ‘Applicant Portal’.

If you are a national from outside the EU/EEA, then you will need to apply for a Tier 4 (general) student visa in order to study at UCA. Take a look at our visa and immigration page for all the details about the visa application process. If you already have permission to live in the UK (e.g. Indefinite Leave to Remain) then we ask that you email us a copy of this permission when you apply. Send your email to

For general application tips for international students you can check out the application tips video on the UKCISA website.

You receive an offer - what next?

A guide for Non-EU international students.

  • Step 1: Receive your offer

You can view your offer on the UCA Applicant Portal and UCAS if you applied through them. We will also email you confirmation of your offer.

  • Step 2: Accept your offer

If you applied directly to us, you can email us at to accept your offer. If you applied through UCAS you will need to send your acceptance to them.

  • Step 3: Apply for UCA Accommodation

We have  at each of our campuses, but places are limited so you need to firmly accept your offer before you can make an accommodation application. After you accept your offer, you can apply for accommodation on the UCA Applicant Portal.

  • Step 4: Meet the conditions of your offer

If your offer has conditions, please email us at with scanned copies of your relevant certificates and transcripts as soon as they are available. You do not need to post paper copies. If you need to increase your IELTS score and require a Pre-sessional English course, please email us at with a copy of your current IELTS certificate and we can confirm if you are eligible.

  • Step 5: Pay your tuition fee deposit

This deposit is £2500 and is a partial payment of your tuition fees. This is only required if you need to apply for a Tier 4 (general) student visa. You can pay your fees by bank transfer, WeChat, UnionPay, Alipay or Tenpay using our secure bank transfer portal, which allows you to pay in your local currency with a favourable exchange rate compared to most banks and no transaction charges or by credit or debit card using our online payment system.

  • Step 6: Provide us with documents for your CAS

The information we’ll ask you for will include information about any previous UK study and may include copies of the financial statements you intend to submit with your visa application. Take a look at our  page for more information on the visa application process.

  • Step 7: Receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)

When we have received all the information we require, we will email you your CAS number. This is proof to UKVI that you have been accepted onto your course, and you will use this CAS number to apply for your Tier 4 (general) student visa.

  • Step 8: Prepare for arrival

You can find a lot of useful information in our Pre-departure guide. We also have an airport  that you can book, so that one of our representatives will pick you up at the airport.
