Bio

David leads the BA and MA Graphic Design courses at UCA’s Farnham campus, working with academic and technical colleagues so graduates have the rigorous design thinking, practice, skills and knowledge they need for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

David is also an exhibition designer, collaborating with colleague Lucienne Roberts on temporary and permanent projects for the Royal Academy, Science Museum, Wellcome Collection and many others. In 2018 Lucienne and David co-curated Hope to Nope for the Design Museum, London — a major exhibition on political graphic design worldwide, made by professionals and amateurs alike since the 2008 financial crash.

David and Lucienne are completing a research project on cult typographer Anthony Froshaug and his key work, 1964’s Typographic Norms. In spring 2023 they will publish a book bringing Froshaug’s work to a wider audience and including newly commissioned responses to it by six international female graphic designers. The project is self-initiated and supported by the University of Brighton Design Archives, which holds the Froshaug archive, and the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography, ArtCenter College of Design, LA.
