Art and Design Saturday Club
Bronze Arts Award

4 Saturday sessions - February 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th, 10am - 3pm daily. This free Saturday Club is open to students aged 15-18 (years 11-13 and FE equivalent levels) living in Kent and Medway (please see below for full eligibility criteria). The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Sunday 16th January.

This Saturday Club is suitable for 15-18 year olds with an interest in creative subjects - you need to have a passion for Art and Design but you don't need any previous experience and you don't have to be studying a creative subject at school/college to take part. Our Clubs aim to be inclusive - creativity is for everyone! If you have any special requirements (learning needs, access needs, disability support, preferred pronouns, allergies etc) then please let us know on your application form and we will try our best to make sure your experience with us is comfortable and enjoyable. If you'd like to ask us anything about the Club in advance of applying, please email outreach@uca.ac.uk

During this Saturday Club, over 4 weekly sessions, you will explore techniques in art and design. This Saturday Club provides a great opportunity to explore new creative disciplines, find out more about creative careers and pathways, and add to your portfolio of work.

During the Club you will take part in creative workshops, meet practising artists and student ambassadors, and get to create your own portfolio of work and group exhibition.

You'll also get the chance to work towards a Bronze Arts Award, a level 1 qualification that is great for your CV if you're interesting in progressing in future creative study or careers. Not sure what Arts Award is? Find out on our Arts Award Student Page.

The Club is a blended activity and has some virtual and some in-person sessions. Each week you will take part in different creative activities:

- Saturday 5th February - in-person at UCA Canterbury - creative workshops (experimental drawing techniques, and creating outcomes using recycled materials)
- Saturday 12th February - virtual - creative workshops (choose from a selection of how-to video tutorials) and independent artist research time (plus creating an outcome in the style of your favourite artist/designer).
- Saturday 19th February - virtual - creative skill share (sharing an art and design technique with a friend, family member, or online)
- Saturday 26th February - in-person at UCA Canterbury - visit to an arts museum/gallery and a group exhibition of your favourite outcomes you've made during the Club.

To take part in this Saturday Club you will need to be able to attend at UCA Canterbury on 2 of the sessions and have access to the internet either by computer, laptop or phone on the other 2 dates mentioned. All creative materials required will be provided free of charge, and support with travel is available for target students (see below or get in touch to find out more).

The Saturday Club is free to attend and open to all students aged 15-18 (years 11-13 and FE equivalent levels) living in Kent and Medway.

This activity is provided by the Kent and Medway Collaborative Outreach Programme (KaMCOP). KaMCOP is part of the national Uni Connect programme, which aims to increase the number of young people from underrepresented groups and areas accessing higher education.

Priority places will be given to students who live in target KaMCOP wards or who attend a KaMCOP Partner school or college.

Any remaining spaces will be allocated in line with the UCA KaMCOP eligibility criteria.

Online safety information: Some sessions of this Saturday Club will be taking place within an online classroom on Blackboard Collaborate, a secure platform which is used by University for the Creative Arts. You may wish to participate via audio, though this is not a requirement and we recommend participation via the chat/messaging function on the page. You will not use a webcam or participate via video. All sessions will be monitored and supervised by University for the Creative Arts employees and will be recorded to allow for multiple viewings by students taking part in the workshop. Participants will be sent a secure link to the virtual classroom to ensure that only students with an approved place on the course and UCA employees will have access to the room.

Deadline for applications: 23:59 on Sunday 16th January.

Disclaimer: UCA KaMCOP reserve the right to cancel or amend this activity at any time prior to the event. This event is in-person and will be subject to institution and government Covid-19 safety guidelines applicable at the time.
