Professor Will Alsop OBE RA

Professor of Architecture, UCA Canterbury

Academic, Canterbury School of Architecture

Professor Will Alsop is a prominent architect and founder of ALL Design who works on large-scale urban planning and design initiatives. His practice is an international operation guided by the principle that architecture is both vehicle and symbol of social change and renewal.

Will joined UCA as Professor of Architecture in September 2013. Prior to this he was Professor of Architecture at TU Vienna from 1997-2016 and has been visiting Professor at several institutions across the world, including Ryerson University, Toronto; the RCA, London, and the University of Hanover.

Will graduated from the Architectural Association in 1973 and has since taught sculpture at Central Saint Martins and architecture in Australia, America, Canada, Germany and the UK.

For many years he was a columnist for the Architect’s Journal.

Will received the degree of Honorary Doctor of Design (HonDDes) from Greenwich University in 2015 and was made an OBE in 2001, in recognition of his achievements.

Will has recently developed a residential programme of learning for architecture students at an historic Spanish site in Girona: ‘Las Heras’. The facility aims to promote cultural exchange and inspire architecture students (and ultimately all creative disciplines) to design interventions in the landscape as places to sleep and contemplate.

"A combination of practice, teaching and painting provide evidence of my interest in the ‘process’ of designing." Prof Will Alsop OBE RA.
