Professor Roni Brown

Professor Roni Brown is Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Development, and Professor of Visual & Educational Cultures at the University for the Creative Arts.

Before joining UCA Roni was previously Dean of Academic Development at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London; Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business, Arts and Humanities at the University of Chichester; and Deputy Head of College at University College for the Creative Arts.

Roni holds a PhD in the History of Architecture and Design from De Montfort University and is published across the disciplines of Design History and Material Culture Studies. Roni's research focuses on user-led content in art and design practice and everyday creativity, broadening the field of design history to consider the role of the user in design development and the social value of participatory creative experience. More recently Roni’s work has focussed on the particular pedagogical environment of teaching and learning and quality assurance in Higher Education Art and Design.

Leading and championing creative partnerships and networks throughout her career, Roni was an Executive member of the Group for Learning in Art and Design (GLAD) from 2008 to 2013, taking forward debates nationally about the student experience in higher education art and design. She is Deputy Chair of Trustees for Artswork, the national youth arts agency and Bridge Organisation for Arts Council England South East, a Trustee of the Open College of the Arts and Adviser to Surrey Hills Arts. Roni is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts.
