Anette Fischer is a lecturer specialising in 3D Development on the BA (Hons) Fashion course. She teaches and instructs garment construction, pattern cutting, modelling on stand, couture construction & tailoring to both under and postgraduate degree students.
Concurrent with working at UCA Epsom, She annually teaches on the Postgraduate Certificate Course in Innovative Pattern Cutting at Central Saint Martins, London.
Furthermore, Anette is a guest speaker for the British Fashion Council at the annual Pattern Cutting and Garment Construction Seminar, hosted at Somerset House, London.
Over the last 17 years Anette has gained extensive experience working in the fashion industry on various shows in Paris, Milan and London Fashion Week, in a variety of roles, e.g. Creative Pattern Cutter, as a ‘trouble-shooter’, and in backstage show production for designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Julian Macdonald, Givenchy, and Peter Jensen.
Anette Fischer is the author of two books. One is already published - Basic Fashion Design 03: Construction - a comprehensive guide to garment construction. The book is part of AVA publishing's Basics Fashion Design series. One is due to be published - Sewing for Fashion Designers, which will be released April 2015, published by Laurence King.
This second book is a complete guide to garment construction. It relates to contemporary fashion, incorporating traditional manufacturing methods. It demonstrates the essential skills needed for basic construction methods and explores techniques used within the fashion industry, e.g. how basic sewing methods are applied at a designer level. The book offers a unique section on exploring Fabric and Cut-Specific Techniques.
Anette has also worked as a freelance designer, designing and producing childrens' wear.
Anette Fischer achieved a Certificate in ‘Hard and Soft Tailor Craft’, a three-year apprenticeship - at Mode Atelier Gmuend and a Degree in Fashion Design at the Staatliche Modeschule, Germany.
As a Creative Pattern Cutter, Anette has over 20 years experience working within the fashion industry and in Higher Education. Her contacts to and within the fashion industry have opened opportunities for past students, offering work placements that have led to full employment at various fashion houses.
