TEF 2023
UCA recognised for teaching excellence

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rating for the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is published today, Monday 18 December, by the Office for Students (OfS), the higher education independent regulator in England.

UCA is proud to announce it has received a Silver rating for the quality of its teaching for both aspects of the review – Student Experience and Student Outcomes.

The university was particularly commended for its commitment to staff professional development and academic practice, which the OfS rated as ‘Outstanding’, alongside its rating of our provision as ‘very high quality’ across the board.

Other elements identified as being of outstanding quality include aspects of UCA’s teaching, assessment and feedback, course content and delivery, student engagement and the communication of intended educational gains to students.

Commenting on the findings, Professor Simon Macklin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, who led the University’s submission, said:  “As a university community, we are passionate about teaching quality and the outcomes of our students. The opportunity to help develop creative talent is an immense privilege into which our academic and technical staff invest a truly inspirational amount of energy and imagination, so I am delighted to see this reflected in the OfS’ findings.”

An example of the way UCA supports the development of all technical and academic staff in order to benefit students is by encouraging staff to develop their creative work in the same spaces as students, and to involve them in projects. All academic and technical staff are also supported to achieve a teaching qualification (if they did not already hold one) within two years of joining the University.
