When you need to take a break on campus, head to the ‘White Zone’. By day, it’s a light and airy café offering countless tasty choices of food and drink. By night, the space transforms into the Glasshouse - a vibrant bar and entertainments venue.

Opening times

Core semester times: 08.30-16.00, Monday to Friday

Out of term: 09.00-14.00, Monday to Friday

You’ll find the White Zone near the main reception and just off the quad. Open to students, staff and visitors, it offers a 160-seat dining area for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. The café trades on good home-style food and caters for every budget.

Café specialities include:

  • A full selection of Tchibo Italian coffee, speciality teas and associated branded goods
  • A ‘grab and go’ area selling hot and cold drinks, pre-packed rolls, sandwiches, salads and hot pasties
  • A popular SubStop deli bar selling freshly-prepared sandwiches, baguettes and sub rolls with a choice of over 30 fillings
  • An extensive hot lunch menu 
  • A range of old fashioned sweets from Sweet Expectations (vegetarian society approved)
  • A wide variety of snacks and homemade cakes.

We can cater for all dietary needs. And if you can’t find what you are looking for - just ask.

 

By night the café area becomes The Glasshouse. With its striking contemporary design and glass roof, this fantastic social space offers a wide variety of alcoholic and soft drinks and competitive bar prices.

Characterised into different zones, you can socialise by the bar, relax and chat on the comfy sofas, plug in your laptop at the counter points or hang out by the pool tables. There’s a packed Glasshouse events calendar too, including regular live music and comedy gigs in the sunken stage area. 

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

Our catering service shares the vision of the Fairtrade Foundation. You’ll find their products available in all our cafés and bars, including coffee, tea, fruit juices, one water, chocolate and cereal bars.

To help reduce our impact on the environment, we’re also working with the catering service to put initiatives in place that will:

  • Limit the amount of food waste we produce
  • Reduce packaging
  • Improve recycling.
